School Projects and "Firsts"

At the Ingatestone Junior School, we're very proud to be a school that just seems to lead the way in many areas. We were the first (and at the time of introduction in 2008) the only school in the UK to have height adjustable furniture available for all children at our school.

We worked closely with Dr Soomro, a Paediatric Chiropractor, to ensure we introduced the correct furniture so that all children of all heights would be comfortable throughout the school day. And now, nearly two years on - our furniture is helping posture and better health.

And in March 2010, we became one of only a few schools to successfully introduce a Solar PV system onto the roof of our school. This means that we are now generating up to over 7kW of electricity every hour and whenever we have surplus, will be selling our energy back to our electricity supplier.

Our micro-generation project took us 2-years and much effort, determination, focus and perspiration to get to the installation stage. We had expert guidance from Solar Green (our advisors and installers), funding support from BERR and had to jump through plenty of hoops in order to "pull it off".
